Psychometric tests for wrestlers?
A spoof news website is reporting that would-be wrestlers in England may be the latest sportsmen and women to undertake psychometric testing.
Newsbiscuit has reported that all smackdown hopefuls will soon face psychometric tests designed to reveal whether they have the right personality for a career in the ring.
The report follows recent media speculation that Arsenal is now carrying out psychometric tests on its young player to find out if they have what it takes to succeed out on the football field.
This latest sports story suggests that from 2012, all training applicants will undergo a series of psychological assessments that examine whether they have a blend of empathy, communication and resilience.
They will sit tests already favoured by many blue-chip companies to identify potentially high-performing candidates. It says wrestlers are traditionally selected on more narrow criteria, for example volume, girth and the ability to hit someone over the head with a chair when officials aren't looking.
The website also quotes commentator and retired wrestler Chris 'Coffee' Kowalchik who welcomed the move but joked that they could just tell people who want to be wrestlers that the whole thing's fixed.
Whilst the origins of the story may be obscure, it is no secret that both the sports world and the businesses community have long recognised the benefits of psychometric testing as an effective tool during the recruitment process.
